UNTF 2022 School Sensitization Commences
We have commenced the next phase of the schools’ sensitization campaign with support from the United Nation Trust Fund End Violence against Women project, (UNTFEVAW).
The campaign targeted at promoting zero violence against young girls is tagged, ‘‘Protect me, Safe guard me, Don’t violate me’’, and is expected to cover 10 select schools across the state.
So far, two schools have been sensitized viz, Positive Minds Academy and Ikenegbu Girls Secondary school, Owerri. Eight more schools are underway.
The students were educated on the importance of speaking out and early reporting, for prevention of sexual and gender-based violence. According to the Project Officer, Faith Kalagbor, she pointed out while sensitizing young girls that the silence of an abused girl can lead to the victimization of many others girls, as such, speaking out is key to ending sexual and gender-based violence.
