AfA collaborates with NAWOJ on International Menstrual Hygiene Day
Recently, AfA collaborated with the National Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Imo state and DeKing Charity to commemorate the International Menstrual Hygiene Day, on the theme,” Menstruation a Normal Fact of life by 2030/Skills for Girls”.
The event which held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists New secretariate complex, Owerri, Imo state, was well attended by female students in select schools in the state.
Speaking, AfA’s Program Manager, Ms Blessing Duru sensitized the girls on the forms and trends of Sexual and Gender Based Violence, SGBV.
She also lectured the young girls on factors that contribute to SGBV and ways mitigate it as well as prevent being victims of pedophiles.
Also speaking, a health worker from the Ministry of Health, Imo state, explained what menses was and how young girls can apply hygiene to prevent infections.
She also taught the girls how properly to dispose their sanitary pads after usage. High point of the event was the distribution of sanitary pads to the girls by the team.
