Alliances for Africa Stands United in 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Aligning with the United Nations Theme: Invest to Prevent – To Orange the World, Orange the Streets

As we commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women today, Alliances for Africa stands in solidarity with the global community to mark the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, running from November 25 to December 10, 2023. Our theme  “Orange the World, Orange the Streets” resonates with our collective commitment to raising awareness and taking action against gender-based violence.

Aligned with the United Nations’ overarching theme, “Unite-Invest to Prevent,” Alliances for Africa emphasizes the critical importance of prevention in eliminating violence against women and girls. Prevention is not merely a concept; it is a proactive and strategic investment in building a world where every individual is free from the scourge of gender-based violence.

In acknowledging the significance of today as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we recognize the urgency to address the root causes of violence and promote a culture of respect and equality. The 16 Days of Activism serve as a platform for intensified advocacy, education, and community engagement to eradicate all forms of violence against women.

We call on all stakeholders – governments, civil society organizations, businesses, and individuals – to invest their resources, influence, and time towards prevention initiatives. By investing in education, awareness campaigns, and community-based programs, we can create a world where violence against women and girls is no longer tolerated.

Let us collectively Orange the Streets and Orange the World! Alliances for Africa invites everyone to join us in lending their voices to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls in Imo State, Nigeria, and around the world. Together, we can create a future where every woman and girl lives free from fear and violence.
