World Day of Social Justice: Alliances for Africa Call to End Violence Against Women and Girls

On this World Day of Social Justice, Alliances for Africa stands united with communities around the world, speaking not just as an organization, but as part of the community, as daughters, sons, parents, neighbours, and leaders who see the realities women and girls face every day.

In our towns, villages, schools, and workplaces, too many women and girls still carry the weight of silence. Violence is often hidden behind closed doors, excused as culture, or dismissed as a private matter. But there is nothing cultural about abuse. There is nothing private about injustice.

At AfA, we believe that social justice begins at home when:

  • A father teaches his son that strength means respect.
  • A teacher refuses to ignore harassment and abuse in the classroom.
  • A neighbour speaks up instead of showing less concern.
  • A community leader chooses protection over reputation.

Together, we can change the narrative. Violence against women and girls is not only a women’s issue; it is a violation of human rights. It limits education, weakens families, damages economies, and robs nations of talent and leadership.

Let this day be more than a reminder. Let it be a commitment to:

  • Listen to survivors and expand safe reporting spaces.
  • Facilitate dialogues that challenge harmful norms and stereotypes.
  • Train youth ambassadors to champion non-violence and equality, and educate boys and men to become allies and advocates.
  • Partner with leaders to strengthen prevention, protection, accountability systems, and the empowerment of women and girls.

Justice is not an abstract concept; it lives in the safety of a girl walking to school without fear or dignity of a woman at her workplace feeling safe and secured; and in the equality of voices at decision-making tables.

AfA believes that when we protect women and girls, we protect the future.
When we empower them, we empower communities.
When we stand against violence, we stand for humanity.

Today, AfA is calling on:

  • Government and community leaders to enforce protection mechanisms.
  • Men and boys to pledge zero tolerance for abuse and become visible allies.
  • Schools and institutions to adopt clear safeguarding policies.
  • Every household to start an honest conversation about respect and equality.

Justice is not a slogan. It is safety in our streets, dignity in our homes, and opportunity without fear.

We cannot do this alone. On this World Day of Social Justice, AfA recommits to building communities where every woman and every girl can live boldly, dream freely, and thrive without violence.

Let us raise our voices not only in awareness, but in action.

Justice begins with us.
Change begins now.
Speak up. Step in. Stand with us.
A just society protects its women and girls without exception.
