For Immediate Release
Date: October 2nd, 2025
Alliances for Africa joins the global community in marking the International Day of Non-Violence 2025, calling for renewed commitment to peace, justice, and the protection of women and girls.
Today, the world recognizes and celebrates the philosophy and strategic legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and the principle that changed nations; non-violence. In a year marked by wars, rising insecurity, economic hardship, and deep social divides, this day reminds us that true strength lies not in violence, but in the courage to choose peace, dialogue, and justice.
Why Non-Violence Matters Now
- Around the world, conflicts have displaced millions, with women and girls carrying the heaviest impacts and burdens.
- Violence against women and girls continues to silence voices and shatter futures.
- Rising hunger, economic inequality, and injustice fuel desperation and with it, the temptation of violence.
But history teaches us a timeless truth: violence may win battles, but it never secures peace. Non-violence, rooted in justice and dignity, builds nations, sustains communities, and protects generations yet unborn.
A Call to Action
On this International Day of Non-Violence, Alliances for Africa emphasizes that we must:
- Reject violence in all its forms, from conflict and terrorism to domestic abuse and gender-based violence.
- Commit to justice and equity as the foundations of peace.
- Promote dialogue and reconciliation in communities divided by mistrust.
- Invest in women and girls with education, skills, and opportunities that give them hope instead of despair.
- Uplift women and girls as leaders of peace, not victims of conflict.
Every citizen, every leader, and every institution has a role to play. Non-violence is not weakness; it is the highest form of strength. It is action, not passivity. It is courage, not silence. It is choosing to heal rather than to harm.
Let 2025 be the year the world rediscovers its moral compass. Let us raise a generation that believes in peace, a generation that rejects hate, and one that values life. Let us remind ourselves that the future is not written by the power of weapons, but by the power of kind words, compassion, and justice.
The International Day of Non-Violence 2025 is not just a commemoration. It is a commitment to stand against violence against women and girls, to build bridges across divides, and to believe, against all odds, that a peaceful world is possible.
Peace is the path.
Justice is the foundation.
Non-violence is the way forward.
